ATHLETE HEALTH & SAFETY: NTL PROTOCOLS

At the NTL, we are unwavering in our commitment to the health and well-being of our cherished horses and jockeys. We firmly believe that the safety and long-term health of the animals is of paramount importance.

To uphold these values, the NTL has established comprehensive protocols that set the standard for the short and long-term health of our athletes, both equine and human.

Compliance with Legislation and Regulatory Bodies:

  1. The NTL will adhere to the rules and regulations of The Horseracing Integrity and Safety Act (the “Act”) as passed by Congress in 2020 and any future amendments. For more information on the Act, please visit: https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/house-bill/1754/text
  2. The NTL will ensure membership and compliance with the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority (“HISA”), the regulatory body sanctioned by Congress to oversee the enforcement of the Act. For more information on HISA, please visit: https://www.hisaus.org/
  3. The NTL will follow applicable medical guidelines and state and federal laws as implemented by state racing authorities.

Collaborative Approach to Safety:

The NTL’s unique collaborative model differentiates it from traditional horse racing leagues and helps to address safety issues that arise from a fragmented system where corners are cut, and rules are broken to maintain a competitive edge. By operating in a closed system of talent, the NTL can implement stringent safety rules that all teams must abide by, without creating a competitive disadvantage.

Incentives Aligned with Athlete Welfare:

The collective talent ownership and team-based system of the NTL make cheating a liability rather than a calculated risk. We have implemented stringent rules that greatly disincentivize cheating or risking horse safety. These measures ensure that the best interests of our athletes are always prioritized. We are committed to upholding the highest standards of safety, integrity, and collaboration within our league and the sport of horse racing.
